About nudity

Why nude?
When you wear clothes, you wear an identity; you’re not yourself, but
you wear the identity you long for. You hide your true identity behind clothes. People value clothes too much these days, believe it’s very important and necessary to wear certain clothes (that are popular amongst others, for instance, or that make them look extra important/rich/smart).

I don’t like to wear clothes; first of all they’re uncomfortable, but second and more importantly: it feels like I’m hiding, while in my work I’m devoted to strategies that are truly, for real and are not hiding or avoiding, that are honest. In these works of mine, in which I don’t wear clothes, I ask myself: ‘What’s my true identity as a human being in this world?’ And facing myself with this question, I’m not capable of hiding my identity.
Furthermore clothes distract. They give others an idea of what kind of job you have, how much money you have, what kind of music you like, and in which period of time you live. It’s not necessarily true, but people constantly judge others on their appearance, wether we like it or not.

Nudity is timeless, free of judgement and free of personality. It’s direct.
It’s freedom. In these particular works in which I’m nude, I wouldn’t even know what to wear, would you? It’s part of the work if I’m nude. If I’m not, that’s part of the work too.
