A Pubic collection

Serieel Beeld, A collection of...

So, I made a pubic collection. For me it was more about the idea that people don't like to talk about their pubics, or even think it's a disgusting subject. Why? It's just nature, everyone has it!

I think a lot of people still disagree with Darwin: people still don't want to be compared with animals. Well, I don't know why that is: I think we should be proud of the fact that we are animals, and that we should stop forcing ourselves to look like a monkey with a suit and lipstick.

Don't try to make it look more fancy than it is! Just accept yourself, the way you are, don't be ashamed of the most banal things in the world!

So, if you still think pubic hair is dirty, ask yourself: am I me, or am I someone that other people want me to be? Do I like myself? Do I know myself? Am I being really, I mean really honest to myself?

I was verry pleased with the fact that, during this assignment, people froms school, and my family, talked a lot about pubic hair: some thought I was disgusting, others thought it was a brilliant idea... But what I was most pleased with, was that everyone really thought about it: Would I let her make a picture of my pubic hair? And if not, why not?
It was so cool to actually see this happening!

I made 11 pictures of all kinds of people's pubic hair.

My thanks goes to all the people who were willing to open their minds - and pants - for me!

Opposites attract

Serieel Beeld, Opposites attract.

A series of contrasting images, that in some sort of way connect: our mind always connects, even if the images don't fit together...Our mind makes its own story of images everytime it sees some together, doesn't it?

For this assignment I was inspired by my personal experience with Anorexia. I think you should know this, to understand my work. The artwork consists of 8 not relating images. But to me actually each image has a story to tell, and reminds me of that period in my life.

You can also see that the images next to eachother have some shapes in common, which I connected through the edge of each painting.

First you'll see every painting seperately, I photographed them just after I finished painting them. Finally there's a photo of all the works together, they're suppose to hang vertically on a wall; this way the line that separates the images, forms a very thin woman...

I hope you like it!
